The company also produced one of the most recognizable icons in the world, the four-sided opal faced clock in the center of New York's Grand Central Station. Twenty-two-year-old Seth Thomas bought out his boss in 1807, just three years after being hired as a grandfather clockmaker in the Plymouth Hollow, Conn., shop.
